December Wedding Cakes

Tuesday, December 28th, 2010

I have been a bit remiss lately, and haven’t been updating this as frequently as I should — but I will blame a busy few weeks and hosting the in-laws for Christmas dinner.

We have been creating some gorgeous cakes lately that I would like to share with you, the first one was a really unusual cake, created especially for the winter solstice at Stonehenge, for a lovely couple, Tara and Joe, for their handfasting ceremony

The inside of the cake was a rich and spicy carrot cake with cream cheese frosting.

The next cake was a variation of our ‘Roses & Rings’ wedding cake, this time in a gorgeous hot pink colour scheme, and customised Bride & Groom figurines to match Helen and Mark.

Although the outside was classically traditional, the inside was a fresh and unusual twist, the bottom layer of ‘Vanilla Latte’, a light coffee sponge with rich vanilla buttercream; middle layer of chocolate cake with a white chocolate and raspberry ganache filling; and the top layer of banana sponge with a white chocolate ganache filling.

Finally, we had one of my favorite cakes, Fluttering Butterflies Wedding Cake, this time in a fabulous claret/burgundy colour scheme.

This pretty butterfly design for Jody and Gemma had a bottom layer of chocolate orange — chocolate cake with a chocolate orange filling, and a top layer of strawberries and white chocolate — light fluffy sponge with fresh strawberries and a white chocolate ganache filling.

I hope you have enjoyed these cakes, do let me know what you think!

Cupcake wedding cakes

Monday, September 13th, 2010

If you are looking for an unusual idea for your wedding cake, have you considered cupcake wedding cakes? These gorgeous fun mouthfuls, recently popularised by ‘Sex and the City’ are an ideal centerpiece for your wedding. A cupcake tower can be elegant, with classically ivory buttercream on beautifully simple vanilla cupcakes, rich and decadent chocolate cupcakes, with fresh flowers or juicy fruits, or even something more unusual — how about red velvet cupcakes, individually iced chocolate cakes, or coffee, banana, or strawberry cupcakes.

Top off each cute little cupcake with a decoration — how about sugar roses, icing hearts, piped monograms, juicy little raspberries, little white daisies, or cute sugar ladybirds.

If you still want a little bit of a traditional wedding cake, your wedding cupcakes can be topped with an iced fruitcake, sponge (or many other flavours)

Pirate Ship wedding cake

Finally got round to sorting out the pictures of the fabulous Pirate Ship wedding cake at the lovely Cleeve House last weekend.

Johnathan first discussed this cake with me back in March, and I’ve been looking forward to making it since the spring.

Rich fruitcake with marzipan and fondant for the main part of the wedding cake, with a fudgy chocolate cake pirate ship. Rice paper sails, and fondant kegs, together with playmobil figures supplied by the happy couple, finish off this fabulously fun cake.
